Second time meet up!( Reflection )

I've learnt a lot of things in our class today. Basically it was about the types of research and about the good characteristics of research questions.

Research can be describe as searching for and gathering information which to answer a particular or problem. When we have some queries about something then we made some information searching  and information gathering by following a few process until we finally found the answer for the questions, it can be called a research.
There are few types of research conducted :

  1. Experimental research -
  2. Correlational research - to investigate the relationship among variables ( cause & effect)
  3. Causal - comparative research - comparing groups to determine causes or consequences of the group members.
  4. Survey research - interview, questionnaires, test
  5. Ethnographic research - documenting or portraying the everyday experience of people
  6. Historical research - study some aspect from the past

The important thing is to set the research question. By stating the research questions, we will be able to know the type of research to be done. But there are few characteristic in order to set the best research questions :
  1. feasible - possible to be done and there are available source to do the investigation
  2. clear - can be understand and can be interpreted by others
  3. significant - worth to be investigate
  4. ethical - will not harm to others

I know that I might find some trouble in creating my research questions. But nevermind, atleast I have learnt a little bit about it. Let's see how it goes!

Course Info

COURSE INFO

Course Description

This course introduces learners to the basics of educational research. The course focuses on the concepts and philosophies underlying academic research in the field of education. It aims at developing students’ understanding of research methodology with emphasis to aspects such as the identification of the research problem and the formulation of research objectives and research questions. It also involves aspects such as research strategies, research design, data collection and data interpretation techniques. Upon completion of this course, students are required to have the ability to define a research problem and prepare a research proposal. This course is compulsory for all students who intend to undertake a post graduate degree at the Master’s level. The learners are expected to do a lot of independent and critical reading of research journals and conducting research.

Course Outcomes:

Upon completion of EDU 702 a student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate good knowledge and understanding of the concepts and philosophies underlining educational research
  • Make a clear statement of a research issue and justify a research approach, methodology, data collection and analysis techniques appropriate for the specific research issue
  • Design and develop a research proposal that addresses an appropriate research problem with related literature review and appropriate research methodology
  • Evaluate and critically review educational research articles and papers.

Greetings..

Hello there!
I'm Syardia Erdina, but most people would call me Scha. I'm 27 years old and currently undergoing my Master of Education in TESL programme at UITM Shah Alam.
As for my  EDU702 (Research Methodology) course with Dr. Teoh, we have been assigned to do some work. Well, apart from the presentations, forum and assignments, we've been told to come up with an e-portfolio. This task carries 10% out of the total marks.

So here is mine! E-portfolio is an electronic portfolio to facilitate students' reflection on their own learning strategies and needs. As for this course, it refers to a collection of students notes, exercises, assignments and announcement in a form of electronic device.

The contents may include:

1. The course information.

2. The course assessment.

3. Some recommended reference

4. Notes.

5. many more...
